Menschen in Finnland werden zum Thema Sommer bzw. Winter befragt. Sie sollen ihre Gefühle und Gedanken schildern, vielleicht auch persönliche Erinnerungen einflechten. – Ein ganz normales Interview vor laufender Kamera ... doch ist der Zuschauer irritiert. Denn das Interview wird nicht in neutraler bzw. thematisch passender Umgebung geführt, sondern in der Situation des maximalen Gegensatzes dazu, bei klirrender Kälte bzw. im Hochsommer. Der Inhalt von Bild und Ton fallen auseinander. Die inneren Bilder, die sich langsam durch die Erzählungen und eigene Assoziationen dazu aufbauen, werden immer wieder von der konträren Interviewumgebung gestört. Auch die Gesprächspartner können sich diesem Einfluss nicht entziehen, sind der Wechselwirkung des Gegensatzpaares Thema vs. Realität ausgesetzt. Als wäre das eine Extrem ohne das andere nicht denkbar, vergleichen sie oft, kehren fast unmerklich immer wieder zur Realsituation zurück, wechseln dabei bisweilen völlig das eigentliche Thema. Ihre innere Uhr, auf die herrschende Jahreszeit eingestellt, lässt sie nicht in die andere Jahreszeit mit allen Gefühlen und Erinnerungen einsteigen. Die Realität, ob nun in Form eines eisigen Schneesturms oder heisser Sommertemperaturen, bricht immer wieder ein. Ihr kann sich weder der Gesprächspartner, noch der Betrachter entziehen.

People in Finland are interviewed about the theme of summer and winter. They are asked to describe their feelings and thoughts, and perhaps include some personal memories. A normal interview carried out in front of a running camera – and yet the viewer is irritated. For the interviews do not take place in a neutral setting, or one suited to the theme. Instead they are conducted in a setting that is fully opposed to the topic, that is to say, in the freezing cold or in the scorching heat. There is a huge discrepancy between image and the sound. The inner images, which are gradually formed in the course of the interviews and from one's own associations, are constantly disrupted by the contrary setting of the interview. Even the people interviewed cannot resist the influence of the setting, are exposed to the contradictions between the theme and the reality of the context. As if the one extreme were inconceivable without the other, they often compare, repeatedly come back unobtrusively to the actual situation, and sometimes change the subject completely. Their inner clock, adjusted to the actual season of the year, prevents them from entering fully into the other season with all their feelings and memories. Reality constantly intervenes, be it in form of an ice-cold snow storm or hot summer temperatures. Neither the people interviewed nor the viewer can resist that reality.
